Sorry you had bad luck with them. I'm on my third HTC product. (3600,3650 and now 3700).
In each case, I bought them overseas and had them shipped to the US. The 3600 had two separate problems, both were taken care of immediately and free. I just received my 3600 back because the navigation button was sticking and they sent me an entire new phone.
My 3700 I haven't had any problems but I've called HTC customer support probably 10 times in the last 1 1/2 years and EVERY time I got to speak to someone IMMEDIATELY. I didn't have to be "transferred", I didn't have to leave a voice mail, I didn't have wait.
I had an ETEN before that and the phone was so-so, it had it's issues like everything but there is NO customer support, no phone number you can call, no one to talk to, it's ridiculous.
I think perhaps the difference is you bought an AT&T phone which though is built by HTC, they don't like to service them. All 3 of mine were European phones and they have performed excellently and HTC has never batted an eye at the thought of not helping me.
And as far as sending the phone to Europe, I haven't had to. Each time I've sent my phone to HTC in Texas. Shipping has been quick, turnaround very reasonable.
As many phones as I've had in the last 10 years, I've never had that kind of customer support.
Sorry it didn't work out for you.

PS. As far as the screen being cracked, go on ebay, you can buy one for about 20 bucks and replace it yourself.
HTH's....
Hi. And I'd totally have to disagree with HTC's customer service being good. I have a AT&T Tilt, the screen cracked. I called HTC they said they will fix it, and I was like great! I said I'd call back, but that was my mistake. A day later i called, and they said that, "Sorry sir, we do not fix anything for the AT&T tilt" I was like wtf..And I also hate the part that since you bought the diamond from UK not USA, if something goes wrong, you're going to have to ship it back to UK. You can't ship it to a USA HTC. That's why I'm waiting to get my Touch Pro when it comes out in the USA.
