I think that feature is to just determine your location with or without GPS.

I have the Sprint version with an unlimited data plan so I just always enable the GPS feature.

Perhaps I'm being thick here, but what does your data plan have to do with GPS?  I thought the latter was just to help the phone get a better fix on where you are.

My old phone (nokia k800) does a much better job of working out where I am from the base stations than the Touch Diamond does without GPS (ie when I'm indoors - never got GPS working indoors on this phone).

Just tried Google maps with my new Diamond using WiFi...the location that it pinpoints (at least for my place) is a bit off (by 3 blocks).  Is this a signal problem because I'm in a high-rise dense area?  How do I fix that?
