Hi all,
thought I'd keep you entertained by logging my newest experiment:

Thought it would be nice to travel with several gigs of movies to watch on the phone, but the Diamond doesn't have a removable sd card. So, I figure I'd load them on my flash drive and see if I can't access them through the mini usb.

I have just ordered a USB Female 2.0 to USB Mini Male 5 pin adapter to plug my thumbdrive into.

When it arrives, I will report back if it works, or if it's a flop.

I used to use (sometimes still do) a converter to convert it to different formats / sizes. I don't watch videos much on the phone any more, just thought it great to have while traveling. (Otherwise I use an Archos pvr).

I believe however, that TCMP has more working codecs than WMP.

I'll will keep you all updated, thanks for the interest!

If this doesn't work out, back to using Orb.

Today, my usb adapter arrived. Joy!

The phone I'm using is a HTC Touch Diamond, since it does not have a removable storage card.

So first I hooked up straight to the flash thumb drive. My thumb drive glows when it's plugged in / drawing power.

Result: It did not glow. It did not show up in the File Explorer on the phone.

Then I hooked up my Archos PVR to it. When the pvr recognizes a usb connection, it goes into sync/hard drive mode.

Result: Neither the PVR nor th phone knew they were connected to each other.

I haven't hooked it up to the phones dual dongle yet, so it could be charged while connected, but I doubt it will change the results.

Conclusion: The experiment was a FAIL.

I believe, if it is possible to overcome the power issue, it would still need some sort of driver to allow for the INPUT of a secondary drive (that's why the computer files don't show up on the phone).

Thanks all who've followed my experiment. At least we can say: It's been tried.  Smiley

What you need is usb host drivers.  I believe I tried Ratoc usb drivers many years ago on my Toshiba E830 and it worked.  Unfortunately, the usb port was only 1.1, so kind of useless.

You would also need a usb hub with a power supply to provide power to a flash drive.
