Adjusting the flashing light when receiving text message.

Is there a way to adjust the duration of the light when receiving a new SMS/text message. The default is 5 minutes, but it is greyed out so i cant change it.
While on receiving a new instant message the timer can be set to "No limit".
Think i read somewhere that No limit translates to about 40 minutes.
That would be enough for me as i dont carry the phone with me while i am at work, but i have it in sight.

If i have to mess around in the register, what is the simplest editor to use. The ones i have tried have all been way to advanced, or difficult to use.

i have opposite porblem..
i want to hear "incoming text message" sound immidiatly, but in settings "5 minute flashing light" and can't change it..
what can we do to change flashing light setting?
