I saw that they are trying to get version 7 out by next year, and this is my first windows mobile phone. Do they let you put different versions on your phone? are they free or do they charge?

Thanks

Ok, I'm going to lay down in easy terms lol.

Windows Mobile is an OS just like Windows XP.

In order to upgrade XP OS to Windows Vista, you would need to..

1.) Meet the hardware requirements.
2.) Buy the software.  (Does that means everyone buys them? :/)

I hope it helped bud.

Siptang.

P.S. - HTC had an offer to free upgrade your winmo if you had version 5. (to 6.1 for free of charge)
Maybe we'll get lucky and run into those deals too.

Ohh yea we will be able to w/ out a doubt... Its just the fact that android looses a lot of things that people love about WM... It also gains a few more, but I'm honestly still a bit iffy on it.

Apparently there is going to be a Windows Mobile version 6.5:

Pc Magazine Article:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2333601,00.asp

"Motorola expects to release a phone based on Windows Mobile 6.5 platform in the second half of 2009, and an Android-based device for the 2009 holiday season."

This might give us a clue as to when WinMo 7 will be out.  I don't think Motorola would release a phone with 6.5 after 7 comes out... so I'd expect WinMo to be released either late 2009, or the beginning of  2010.  If you ask me, they will come out with it when Windows 7 (upgrade to Vista) comes out... I think I heard 2010 for that.

So if you are a tech junkie like me, you might feel frustrated because of all the speculation of WinMo7 coming out in January of 2009 (I'm not saying its not... who knows...).  What are the pros and cons of this?

Cons first:  To sum it all up... we want to see what WinMo7 it can do! k Heck, I want to see what 6.5 can do!

Pros: In case the Diamond will not get the upgrade to it, we can expect to have an up-to-date operating system for a while.  This means that application/game developers will be focusing on our version of WinMo, 6.1 (or any other 6.#whatever# we might be upgraded to in the near future) instead of just making things for 7!

I want to know what happened to 6.2, 6.3, and 6.4.  Crazy Microsoft developers and their version-hording shenanigans!  Grin Grin

well I think I will jump on the bus with disaster, Flashing and wiping out the memory on something I paid hundreds of dollars for, scares the crap out of me too.  I can buy bricks for about 35 cents a piece, and they are much stronger than the diamond.  I have the curse of, if it can go wrong it will happen to me, so I ain't flashin nothin.

Agreed.  I'm even scared to flash to another ROM away from Sprint's.  I just keep hearing too many horror stories, and I don't have money to replace a phone if my insurance didn't agree with the way it was trashed.  I will tweak as much as I can though!
