I'm thinking about making the trade... my Instinct for a new Sprint Diamond.  I know several of you have already made the trade.  Have you been happy with your decision?

I have a few specific concerns.  I'm not that concerned with the versatility or adaptability of Windows Mobile.  The Instinct does almost everything I'm interested in (besides view word docs, pdfs, etc... but I know that is coming).  Here are my questions:

1.  Is the 3.2mp camera on the Diamond considerably better than that on the Instinct? I know it has autofocus (I'm also considering the touch pro, which has a flash... do you think this would make a big difference?)

2. Will using a 3.5" adapter and my fairly high end headphones on the Diamond produce inferior sound than those headphones plugged directly into my Instinct?

3. How does viewing sprint tv/you tube videos look on the diamond compared to the instinct? Just as pixelated... or better for some reason?

4. Do you find that the processor speed/ram upgrade makes a big difference in performance?

5. I know the Instinct qwerty experience is better than that on the Diamond. Is it a huge difference?

6. How much bigger or small do you suppose the diamond or touch pro feels in a pocket compared to the instinct?

7. How much better is Opera Mobile than the new, updated (as of 9/24) Instinct browser, which I find to be pretty decent?

8. AND FINALLY... I find the email/messaging interface on the instinct to be really user friendly.  Is this experience on the Diamond, through Windows Mobile... also fairly user friendly?

Thanks so much in advance for any advise!

I'm very happy, I had fun with the Instinct, but the Diamond is everything I could want.

1.  It's not considerably better, but it is better.  The zoom function is cool, auto focus touch sensor is really cool on the Diamond.
2.  The Diamond has only 1 mini-usb connector on the bottom, so it comes with an adapter for you to plug in 3.5 headphones, as well as charge the phone and listen to music at the same time.
3.  Youtube is head and shoulders better than the Instinct, Sprint TV is about the same.
4.  I have noticed some lagging, and some freezing, but nothing like the worst days of Samsung.
5.  I would say the qwerty keyboards on the Diamond are more accurate in their response than the instinct even though they are smaller.
6.  Pocket, I cant tell.  The Diamond feels smaller in the hand because it is shorter.
7.  A million.
8.  Completely user friendly, an envelope pops up when you slide to the email button, then it envelope opens so you can read it.  Or you can double tap the envelope and it opens for full screen, and so you can respond.

Thanks! That's really useful.

How would you say the audio quality is on the Diamond compared to the Instinct... seeing as how the headphones have to get plugged in through the adapter for the Diamond?

Anybody else have input?

WhatWhat did a very nice job with the answers, and seemed to sum it all up.  I switched from the Instinct and I am SO happy I did.  The only thing I'll add is that I liked typing on the Instinct better because of size and vibration feedback... the Diamond allows for different keyboards which is a plus, and the keyboard works in 3rd party apps! haha  I was getting so tired of waiting for Sprint to fix that Instinct keyboard!

Remember that a key difference is that the Diamond is a true "Smart Phone" or "Pocket PC."  It runs windows mobile in the background, so there are many applications and games that already work with it very well.  There are many developing new apps everyday!  BUT, there is a learning curve in the beginning if people are not used to using Windows Mobile.  Touchflo does a very nice job in making it user friendly, but make sure you learn all you can about whats running in the background to avoid frustration, and to get the full power of the Diamond.

Plane and simple:  The Instinct is Extinct, and the Diamond has been found.  Grin

I liked the Instinct, but it's not in the same league as the Diamond.

1. Camera does a decent job.  Pictures are much clearer and the camera has more features and settings and it zooms.

2. I use the headphone adapter with my Bose headphones and music sounds great.  It sounds as good as any mobile player I've ever used.  The included headphones aren't great, but you hook the phone up to good equipment and it sounds nice.  It also has an EQ with 10-15 presets or you can create a custom setting.

3. Sprint TV, movies & Youtube look better on this phone.  Sprint TV still is not great, but it's noticably better than on the Instinct.

4. The phone seems to run pretty fast.  I don't remember ever sitting around waiting for this phone to do anything.

5.  The keyboard is a little cramped, but there are 3 options that are pretty good.  I prefer Full Querty.  I hope they upgrade to a landscape keyboard for texting like they have built into the Opera Browser.

6. Phone definitely feels smaller in a pocket compared to the Instinct.  Both phones are thin, but this one is shorter.

7. I've used the updated browser on the Instinct and I must say I was very inpressed.  With that said, it would take 10 more updates to equal the Opera Browser on the Diamond.  I've not found a website that this phone won't open.  They're may be one, but I haven't found it.  It's also very fast and being able to rotate the phone to view sites in landscape or vertically is nice.  It also does a nice job of fitting long lines of text on the screen for less scrolling.

8. Email is just as easy to use and I'm now able to view the full email and not just the text.

Bottom line, the phone is an upgrade.  I hope this helps.

I got the Instinct July 5th, and made the trade October 1st.  I had to return the instinct for $130 credit, and then paid another $120 for the Diamond.  Basically got the new customer price for the Diamond.  It took some pointing out it's flaws, lies, and other things about the Instinct.  I never called Sprint so they had no info on my account, I got around that by saying I had gone into the store multiple times during my 30 day trial, and they kept turning me away.  Also, I never called retentions, I went the Dan@Sprint.com route.

Nice.  I've heard of that route.  I wonder who's really answering those emails... lol  It seems to work though!

well everyone said everything that I wanted to say, so I will just add, Why think about it?  Thinking causes you to doubt. Go with your instinct and throw the instinct in the trash and come over to the wonderful world of windows.
