I went through the same thing at first with the .cab formats.  A .cab file is an installation file for the Diamond and other phones.  Its like a .exe (application file) is to a PC.  By dropping a .cab file into your Internal Storage, or downloading it directly onto the Diamond, you can click it on your phone and it will install whatever application it is for.  Remember to always install onto your "Internal Storage" and not the "device" when it prompts you to do so.

A .zip file is a way to compress files for easy transfer.  Think of it has a handbag you are throwing files into so you can carry it all.  You can create your own with Windows by right clicking a file, or a group of selected files and choosing "send to" then "compressed folder."  This is a great way to bundle a bunch of photos and email them to a friend, for example.  To extract a file or files from a .zip file, there are a couple ways.  You can double click on the .zip and drag and drop the files you want out of it to another folder, the desktop, or your Diamond through disk drive mode.  You can also right click the .zip and tell it to "extract here."  The files inside will appear next to (in same folder) as the .zip.

Another file format you may run into is a .rar.  You will need a program called "WinRar" to open them.  They behave exactly like a .zip file, and upon installing Winrar, the program will add "extract here" options to your menu when you right click (Windows, there is a version for Mac as well).  Winrar will also open .zip files.

I just noticed a version for Pocket PC's!  Woohoo!

Another way of installing programs to your Diamond is through .exe files.  These must be run from your PC while your phone is connected in activesync mode (make sure you have installed the drivers for the phone from the CD it came with).  The installation will detect the phone, and run a .cab file on it.  You will choose to install into "internal storage" again, and press ok on the phone when it is done.

I hope this helps. You should be able to follow the instructions on the clock post now that you know what a .cab is.

I'm changing this post title, and putting a sticky on it.  I'm sure many will have the same question.  Thanks for asking it!  Grin

First, put the .cab file you downloaded into your Internal Storage on your phone.  I like to put .cab's into the "My Documents" folder.  You can do this by directly downloading it using your phone, or drop it from your computer into that folder while your phone is connected in disk drive mode.  It should ask you what mode to put it in, either activesync, or disk drive.  You can open it from "My Computer" just like a jump drive or external hard drive.

Follow the instructions to turn off Touchflo 3D listed on the clock thread in the software section.  You may have to restart the phone if your screen is only showing half what it should (looks like it is cut in the middle).

You will know that Touchflo 3d is turned off because your normal scroll bars on the bottom will be gone, and only a black screen will be there.

To install the clock cab file you need to go to "Start" and click on "programs."  Open the "File Explorer" and you will be able to navigate to where you dropped the .cab file.  All you have to do is click on the cab file and the installation will start.  Make sure you choose to install to "internal storage" when it prompts you to do so.  Click "ok" and the phone should restart.

After the restart, follow the instructions on the clock thread again to enable touchflo 3d again.  You should now see the new clock.  Just to make sure everything is working right, take off the battery cover and click the red button with your stylus to soft reset.  You should be good to go after that.  Grin

Sorry it took so long to respond.

arch, why is it so important to install to internal storage... it hasn't seemed to make a difference with the programs I've downloaded.

I am pretty sure that Arch suggested to install to the internal storage, only cuz you have more space there, and are able to install more things rather than installing it straight to the phone.

In general, I would like to add a Russian Option to the existing keyboard. SInce te standard FUZE comes with several language options already, I would assume that it should be possible to add one more (or replace one of the installed languages with Russian)..
